The second International Conference
25-26-27.05.2011
The second International Conference held by LUDUS Consortium took place Milan, Italy, from 25th to 27th of May 2011. The event was focused on educational, psychological, economical and institutional issues related to the Serious Games topics, providing different point of views of experts and organizations dealing with this theme.
The SGEED 2011 (Serious Games, Education and Economic development) opened on May 25th with a round table hosted in Università di Milano Bicocca focused on the research, applications and future trends of Serious Games. Conference location was changed for the last 2 days to Politecnico di Milano where were hosted round tables, discussions and Case Studies presentations through a morning conference.
During the afternoon were held three workshops where participants can collaborate with experts about Serious Games on specific themes.
- WORKSHOP 1 – Multicultural Dialogue Training: An adaptive simulation approach” in the frame of the European project ImREAL
- WORKSHOP 2 – LUDUS Second Competition: Award and discussion about the use of Serious Games to boost student’s motivation

2nd European Best Learning Game Competition (EBLGC)
7th February – 22nd April, 2011
A European-wide competition organized in the context of the LUDUS project.
The 2nd European Best Learning Game Competition seeks to expand the understanding and capabilities of developing and using Serious Game applications for learning and training and to promote a debate of Serious Games as factor of regional development
The competition was opened to individuals, companies, organizations or students with an interest
in developing serious games and organized into 4 submission categories
1. Best non-professional learning game
a) Best functional learning game
b) Best learning game idea/concept/storyboard
2. Best professional learning game
a) Best professional learning game with low budget (total development budget under 40.000 €)
b) Best professional learning game with high budget (total development budget over 40.000 €)
The winners are listed here and have been announced in a ceremony that will be held during the 2nd International conference, organized by the LUDUS project in Milan, Italy on 26-27 May 2011

Serious Gaming Open Learning Lab - 2011
From March to April 2011 the University of Milan-Bicocca within the framework of LUDUS Project organized the Serious Gaming Open Learning Lab – 2011. The lab was addressed to students, teachers, researchers, trainers and human resources professionals not expert in Serious Games. The aim of the lab was to increase basic knowledge and awareness regarding the field of Serious Games and their potentialities application in several domains. Beyond didactic and theoretical materials provided to participants, several lessons and experiential sessions have been organized. UNIMIB offered the possibility to be involved in “in-presence” face to face lessons or to have Skype video conference. In cooperation with prof. Albena Antonova, Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics – University of Sofia St. Kliment Ohridski and with the Norvegian University of Science and Technology UNIMIB organized lessons regarding Serious Games in Second Life. The lab has been featured by relevant experiential sessions where participants, after having theoretical introductions, have been asked to create Serious Game’s concepts and ideas with specific provided feedbacks regarding each phase of the designing process of a Serious Game.
First Serious Gaming Open Learning Lab 2011 (SGOLL)
CESCOM - University of Milano-Bicocca organizes within the European project LUDUS Serious Gaming Open Learning Lab 2011. The Serious Gaming Open Learning Lab is an online laboratory. The registration is open to all interested students without any fees. All activities and materials will be available online from 1st March to 1st May 2011. The Lab aims at supporting participants in improving their knowledge and competencies in Serious Games through theoretical and experiential sessions. Some on line practical support sessions will be organized through Students will be required to attend experiential and practical exercises.

The first International Conference
The first International Conference held by LUDUS Consortium took place in Ioannina, Greece, from 7th to 9th of July 2010.
The event focus on educational, psychological, economical and institutinal issue related to the Serious Games topics, providing different point of views of experts and organizations dealing with this theme.
The SGEED 2011 (Serious Games, Education and Economic development) aims at dveelop round tables, discussions and Case Studies presentations through a morning conference and offers three workshops where participants can collaborate with experts about Serious Games on specific themes.

1st European Best Learning Game Competition (EBLGC)
15 March – 18 June, 2010
A European-wide competition organized in the context of the LUDUS project.
The EBLGC is organizaed by the Romanian Association for Electronic Industry and Software (ARIES),
Bucharest, Romania.
The competition is open to individuals, companies, organisations or students with an interest in developing serious games and that are interested to submit an entry to the competition

Re-launch of LUDUS project’s website
11.02.2010On February 11th 2010 the official LUDUS website has been re-launched and substituting the preliminary version. The new website offers a broad range of information about the project itself, the project partners and about Serious Games in general. It will be updated regularly with news about the project. The information about the project and Serious Games are available in the following languages:
English, Greek, Italian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Slovenian, Hungarian, Serbian and Croatian

2nd Project meeting
08.-09.02.2010The 2nd Project meeting was held in Milan on the 08-09th February, 2010. The partners of LUDUS project discussed and assessed the success of the first projects events that have taken place, evaluated the communication and project management activities, discussed reporting and agreed on the next steps. The next core activities of the project are the preparation of the "European Best Learning Game competition", the survey of IT stakeholders and the preparation of the European conference on Game-based Learning, which will take place in the beginning of July 2010 in Ioannina, Greece.
The host of the 2-day event was the Italian Partner of POLIMI, the Polytechnic University of Milan.
The Game Barometer – A survey on the subject of Serious Games
05.02.2009Starting from February 4th 2010 the LUDUS project partners are conducting a survey regarding the use and familiarity of Serious Games. The survey, called 'Game Barometer', is trying to assess the readiness, interest and capabilities of the general public and a broad and representative range of stakeholders with an interest in game based learning to use and apply the concept of Serious Games in their professional fields. The online questionnaires are published on the Knowledge Node of the LUDUS project (www.serious-gaming.info) and are available in following languages: English, Greek, Italian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Slovenian, and Hungarian.

Knowledge Sharing Regional Training Course in Italy - POLIMI
02.02.2010Around 30 participants were attending the first Knowledge Sharing Regional Training Course (KSRTC) and the Regional Network Workshop of the LUDUS project. The participants, mostly students, were able to learn in different workshops the theoretical and practical aspects of Serious Games and useful information for creating games of their own and had the opportunity to network among each other to enable common future projects and ideas.
Info day in Romania - ARIES
29.01.2010On January 29th 2010 the Romanian Association for Electronic Industry and Software (ARIES) hosted nearly 50 people at the first Romanian info day about Serious Games in Bucharest. Invited key note speaker was David Wortley from the Serious Games Institute (UK) who was offering advice on the use of Serious Games in small and medium-sized enterprises.
Info day in Italy - POLIMI
27.11.2009Around 200 participants visited the info day organized by the Polytechnic University of Milan. The audience was informed about the concept of Serious Games, the LUDUS project, its events and the upcoming activities. The event took place at the Piccolo Theatre of Milan, on November 27th, 2009. Among the speakers were Umberto Veronesi, Alberto Colorni, Flavio Albanese, Giullio Ballio, Lucio Pinto and Giuseppe Colosio who talked about didactic games and scientific culture in schools.
Info day in Bulgaria - BIA
11.12.2009The LUDUS information day of BIA was held on 11 December 2009 in Sofia. Nearly 120 participants attended the event and learned about Serious Games and their impact for SMEs and the regional development. The topics of the presentations covered the following fields: Introduction to Serious Games; Serious Games Past, Present and Future; Examples of Serious Games; Benefits of Serious Games for businesses.

Open Brainstorming meeting in Slovenia - BSC
14.-16.10.2009Representatives from the project partners of the LUDUS project, interested companies as well as three invited experts were attending a three day workshop to discuss the objectives of the LUDUS project and to analyze how to meet the goals of the project. One major aspect of this brainstorming workshop was to discuss and decide upon the topics and the content of the two European conferences and the two Best Learning Game competitions. The consortium was supported by the expertise of well known and renowned experts in the field of Serious Games: Simon Nielsen-Engenfeldt (Serious Games Interactive), David Wortley (Serious Games Institute) and Kostas Anagnostou (Ionian University).
Kick off meeting in Ioannina, Greece - BIC
18.-19.06.2009On 18-19 June 2009 twenty participants of eight partners from six countries of the Southeast region of Europe met in Ioannina, Greece, at the premises of the Business & Innovation centre of Epirus (BIC) to kick-off the 36 months long LUDUS project (1 May 2009 – 30 April 2012). In the meeting the general procedure of the project and the implementation of the various activities were discussed and decided.
The project will be implemented by the South East Europe Transnational Cooperation Programme (http://www.southeast-europe.net/en/) and is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
