The results of the LUDUS survey

The report on the survey of the LUDUS project on the Interest, readiness and capabilities of developers and users of serious games has been published.

The survey was conducted between January and June 2010, using two different questionnaires which were addressed to two groups of serious games stakeholders in countries of south east Europe: a) potential users of serious games, and b) developers of serious games. Important findings have been deducted from both questionnaires.

Presentations and the evaluation of the 1st conference

The Serious Games Education and Economic Development Conference - 2010 took place in July 7-9, 2010 in the city of Ioannina, Greece. It was the first conference organized in the context of the LUDUS project, aiming to raise awareness and promote the concept of Serious Gaming.

The Conference brought together interdisciplinary approaches and viewpoints regarding Serious Games and the benefits from their use demonstrating an impressive turn out of academics, education professionals, game companies, students and learners.

LUDUS is expected to bring out a number of results among which:

Outputs

In the context of LUDUS project, a number of activities that promote knowledge transfer, networking and sharing of expertise on Serious Games take place in the area of South Eastern Europe. These activities aim in addition at promoting training and development of skills and production capabilities of local IT companies and staff in the Serious Games field. The activities of LUDUS include, among others, a state of the art analysis in Serious Gaming, a survey on the readiness / interest of ICT companies of South Eastern Europe for the development of Serious Games, the organisation of workshops, conferences, training courses, competitions, open validation labs, creation of on-line database of experts and stakeholders, construction of a website and a reference library & kit, promotion actions and good practices guide.

More specifically, the LUDUS project includes:

  1. Two European Conferences on Serious Gaming.
  2. Two European Best Learning Game Competitions.
  3. Fourteen Regional Networking Workshops and one Open Brainstorming Session aiming at promoting networking among participants.
  4. Fourteen Knowledge Sharing Regional Training Courses demonstrating good practice, facilitating local development of capabilities, bringing together pedagogy experts, teachers, story tellers, developers.
  5. Two European Open Learning Labs developing as learning assignments showcase games (such as, for instance a browser based interactive digital story telling application, etc.).
  6. A knowledge node, a web-based collaboration and knowledge platform that will facilitate knowledge transfer and networking.
  7. Surveys of businesses and institutions on readiness, interest, capabilities.
  8. Best Practices Guide as a reference library on the field of Serious Gaming and also as a manual with guidelines for anyone "interested in developing a serious game application.
  9. Study visit for the project partners for immersion in the field of Serious Games.
